The Irish are cool. Honestly, if you’ve ever met Irishman or woman, they are just cool people. Their accents make anything they say goofy yet poignant, and you can’t help but hang on their words. In part because they’re interesting, and in part because you need to be able to understand what their saying even though you can only understand every third word. Today we will present you with the 3 coolest Irish people to ever live. Try and disagree.
James Joyce- The “Thoughtful” Author
James Joyce is a legendary Irish author, often considered one of the best authors of the twentieth century. His first and most influential novel Ulysses is described as one of the most intricate works on the human thought process. Despite his continuous, stream of consciousness style of writing, Joyce manages to craft witty puns and elaborate metaphors throughout. Either that or his work makes zero sense because of how hammered he was throughout. Joyce said that he was simply unable to write without alcohol in his system. To cope he drank 2 bottles of liquor a day.
A talented author and drinker, James Joyce was definitely 100% awesome.
Grace O’Malley- The Pirate Queen
In the 16th century, Grace O’Malley captained a crew of 200 pirates, held several castles, and was the matriarch of giant pieces of Irish Territory. O’Malley would continuously plunder foreign ships that would pass through her domain, imposing a “tax” in the form of “give me all that you have”. The Brits had finally had enough, so they sent a unit to take her down. Needless to say, O’Malley wasn’t having it. She ordered her pirate posse to pour scalding hot oil over the castle walls onto the intruders. Eventually, Queen Elizabeth of England managed to capture O’Malley’s force, but they were immediately released after O’Malley marched into London and demanded that they be unchained.
Why? Because Grace O’Malley was a ginger Irish Pirate Queen, and obviously 100% awesome.
